CAN Say Youth Club

Community Arts Network have been providing inclusive childcare since 1994. In 2000 we consulted with parents and children about their needs and what facilities were available for them to access. Through this consultation we found that children with disabilities and additional needs had little opportunity to mix with their friends outside of school. We set up the CAN SAY, (Specific needs and Able-bodied Youth), Youth Club for young people aged 8 years and over, with and without disabilities.

The club meets every fortnight on Saturdays in Bideford 2 – 5 pm. The club members have access to a variety of activities. The club aims to give its members a chance to socialise, take responsibility for ideas that they would like to do and grow their self confidence and self esteem, in a safe and supported environment. All staff and volunteers are vetted and have training and experience of working with young people with disabilities.we encouraged club members to bring their own board or play station games, music and ideas to share with the group.

For more information and to book a place please contact us at the number above.

CAN SAY – based at Pynes Infant School, Coronation Road, Bideford, and runs from 2 – 5 pm.

Write up on the Club from Gemma 18 years, who is a Millennium Volunteer

“Saturday club is open to all young people with disabilities and their friends of all different ages. It is good fun to come along to meet different people and they could be your friends. We have a pool table, games; play station games, bat and ball, arts and crafts, music and more. We have circle time with a drink and biscuits and all play games together. You can do what you want to do. Then we all pack up and your parents will pick you up.”
