Age range 8  - 25 years of age

Join us in our new project to give children and young people a voice over the airwaves by setting up a community radio station for and run by children and young people.

We are now recruiting young people to be part to be the driving force behind the new venture. Anyone under the age of 20 (25 if you have a disability or special education need) can get involved and be part of the organising committee. Group meetings will be held via Skype minimising travel and opening this up to all regardless of your location. We will also be looking for budding radio presenters and those that are more interested in the technical aspects of radio and sound.

This will be a unique community radio station that will be led by and for children and young people. The new station will aim to have a programme of topics that are relevant to each age group and have guests speakers from statutory and community groups that will answer questions and give advice. The station will not broadcast chart music  but instead will link with our VH Live project to bring the best original music from local bands, musicians and singers. We will also be supporting all other performing arts through radio plays, comedians and any talent that can be broadcast for radio.

This is a real opoortunity to have a voice and contribute to the local community and learn new skills.

If you are interested in getting involved in any aspect of community radio from DJ to technical support you will receive full training.

ICAN Short break scheme

Following a period of consultation with families we are please to announce that the ICAN short break has been launched for North Devon.

The short break scheme is a service to support families to have a respite whilst their disabled child/young person can access leisure activities of their choice with the support of a trained enabler. Over the next few months preparing publicity material, and develop the web site for the scheme. We are starting to accepting registrations from families to match our current team of enablers.

Along side the ICAN Short break scheme we have also set up the ICAN socials to support larger shared group activities once a month. We have had two social outings this year, one to Lets go Superbowl and the second to the Milky Way. Both trips were great fun and everyone had a fantastic time. We are now looking forard to our next planned outing of a day at the Calvert Trust in March and a bike riding day on the Tarka Tail in April.

to registered for the scheme download the registration from the downloads area of our web site or contact us for details.

Materials needed

We are always on the look out for any materials that can be used at the schemes and projects. We are especially keen to hear from local companies for clean industrial waste. We can not take huge amounts, and what do collect is shared with other groups and help a little to reduce landfill.
